Making Twitter Posts Interesting

The single biggest criticism of Twitter isn’t exactly new. All over the place you’ll see people proclaiming that they don’t “get” Twitter. Typically, their complaint is that “all” Twitter posts are things like:

I say that this criticism isn’t new because that’s nearly the exact same argument that the critics made about blogging. The thing to note is that there are still blogs that read exactly like that and there will always be blogs that read like that. However, as people got the hang of the format, people (as a whole) have been figuring out how to make it more interesting.

Now, you’ll find people who call Twitter asynchronous instant messaging, a form of SMS text messaging,

Beating Writer’s Block

There are as many causes of writer’s block as there are writers. And, there’s no one cure for it either. What works for one writer doesn’t necessarily work for another. So, I’ve taken to collecting lists of things to do when writer’s block strikes.

Today, I ran across another list in this genre, conveniently compiled into a neat 10-item list. One that isn’t on most such list is just to lower your standards.

I’ve frequently had dry stretches because I want to post a “good” post or one that matches some ideal standard in my head. However, in lots of cases, putting out a shorter, simpler post can jar loose the floodgates.

Welcome to the Republic of Blog.

Web publishing in general and blogging specifically have obliterated the barriers that used to prevent people from expressing themselves. Today, the means of expressing yourself on a blog are available to everyone.

This site is a guide and will hopefully be a community dedicated to navigating this new democracy: the Republic of Blog.

I’ve got some ideas for pushing this ideal forward and welcome other suggestions and contributions as well.
